I couldn’t think of a better way to display family photos then a gallery wall in the living room of our home. I love that it gives me a way of displaying a little piece of my family’s story for all of our guests to see. The only thing that was keeping me from doing one was the dreaded amount I knew it would end up costing. Between frames and prints the cost could really add up quickly.
Don’t worry friends, I found an affordable way…….
Even you can create your very own gallery wall that won’t break the bank. In fact, the entire cost of this project was only around $35. Let me tell you how I did it.
First things first what size and shape do you want your gallery wall?
I personally wanted something with clean lines, but that still had different sized frames. I went with a outer square shape made up of 8×10, 5×7 and 3×5 frames. The inner square is 4×6 frames.
Now where to find budget friendly frames and photo prints?
This was my biggest hang up. I searched every store and website. Sure, I could have spent $10+ per frame but who honestly has the budget for that?!?! Would you believe me if I told you I was able to find all the frames with matting in them at Dollar Tree you guys!!
Yep I was shocked also
The gold frame with the matting makes this gallery wall look so upscale. No matter what frames you pick, I believe matting is key for a finished look. I did a variety of sizes making the cost of printing picture out less expensive as well.
16 Frames at $1/frame = $16 I used these ones
photo prints between .25-$2 = $19
Total Cost= $35
Hack for hanging frames….
This is the step I dread the most. My hack for you is to make a templet of each frame you are going to use. This makes it easy for you to tape them up on the wall, move them around and arrange them until you are happy with the look. Now you’ll just want to double check measurements and spacing. Once you are set with the shape/layout, and have measured things twice. Grab your nails and a hammer and get those frames hung.
After we completed our first row of nails, I hung the frames up to preview how I liked the spacing. After determining that it was properly spaced, we went ahead and nailed in the entire gallery wall.
I really couldn’t be more pleased with how this gallery wall turned out. Not only do I love having a place to display family memories, it only cost $35
Do you have a gallery wall in your home? How often do you switch out the photos?
